You might be asking yourself why I named this blog "A Mother's Balancing Act". Or, if you're like me, it might seem perfectly obvious! As a mother, it seems that I am constantly in a state of balancing umpteen things at once (and often not all that well, I might add...). In a given day, the things I juggle may include:
- Dragging one of my daughters out of bed for school (pretty much the same one each morning, but that's an entire blog entry in and of itself...)
- Dropping one or both daughters off at one or two different schools
- Calling in a prescription refill
- Checking email/blog before work
- Cleaning up breakfast dishes
- Taking the dog to the groomer
- Attending Mass to hear / see one of my children read/sing/play handbells/take up the gifts (and to make myself holier than the rest of you for the rest of the day! HA!)
- Drop of dry cleaning
(All of the above to be completed prior to going to work for the day...)
- WORK (5-8 hours, depending on the day. I am part-time, so this will vary.)
- Pick up Rx called in earlier in day
- Pick up dog at groomer
- Drive one or both children to various after school activities, which may include (on any given day, depending on time of year and level of interest of aforementioned child-ren at any given moment at any point in God's universe)
- Dance
- Yoga
- Volleyball practice
- Basketball practice
- Softball practice
- Track practice
- Conditioning (you think I'm kidding, right? Nope, not kidding...think teenagers)
- Piano
- Choir practice
- Handbell Practice
- Youth Group
- Girl Scouts (am leader)
- Any variety of tournaments/recitals/retreats/campouts associated with above sports/activities
Are you getting all of this? Let's not forget any activities that I might actually have of my own...heaven forbid!
And hey! How about dinner?
Can you say drive-thru? Or Dream Dinners?
Can you say, "Five o'clock does not come nearly early soon enough," even in the summertime?
And we wonder why the mothers of our nation are seeking anti-depression med's at a faster rate than ever before?
And we wonder why teens are saying that they don't want to have kids?
Perhaps, they have been over-programmed.
So, yes, I named this blog, "A Mother's Balancing Act," in hopes of imparting some ideas but also in hopes that I might get some. From you. So, please. Comment. Often. Let me know what's working for you. And what's not. And I'll do the same. Like sharing tips on how Dream Dinners has saved my life on many a night when I couldn't stand the thought of another dinner out but didn't feel like "cooking for real". Or how stressful going vacation can actually be, but how in the end it's all worthwhile 'cuz' you're with your kids and your hubby, and you really do have a good time together - most of the time!
Pour a glass of wine.
And let's chat. Betcha' you'll be glad we did.
